SHIAMAK and The Shiamak Davar Dance Company

Shiamak’s powerful storytelling through the medium of song and dance has enabled him to create masterpieces that stimulate the body, mind and spirit, and make music visible through innovative dance movement, costumes and set design. Be it the opening and closing ceremony of the Asian Games in India (1989), Third National Games (1994), World Economic Forum (Davos, 2006), Commonwealth Games (Melbourne, 2006 & New Delhi, 2010), The Unforgettable Tour (2008), IIFA Awards and the Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA), Shiamak along with the Shiamak Davar Dance Company has created breathtaking visuals putting Indian culture on the world map.

In his earlier years, Shiamak performed in theater productions and plays including Evita, Grease Kabaret, Othello and My Fair Lady. His own productions, Yes! The Spirit of Triumph, One and I Believe found global acclaim and have made him a name to reckon with. His world tours in China, South Africa and Egypt took his unique style and Indian culture to the world.

Nationally and internationally, Shiamak’s shows have wowed audiences and world leaders alike. He has entertained world leaders including former US President Bill Clinton, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and international stars Tom Cruise, Richard Gere, Will Smith, Michael Douglas, Sting, Bryan Adams, Stevie Wonder, Oprah Winfrey and Debbie Allen.

The Shiamak Davar Dance Company

Personally trained by Shiamak, the Shiamak Davar Dance Company is one of the most versatile performing troupes in the world. Impeccable with their technique, knowledge and performance, the Company is recognized for its discipline and commitment to the arts. Members of the Shiamak Davar Dance Company also teach dance, spreading Shiamak’s motto of ‘Have Feet. Will Dance’ through his dance academy.

Having travelled globally with Shiamak, the Company take the varied colors and energy of Indian culture to international audiences. Wowing world leaders including former US President Bill Clinton, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and international stars Tom Cruise, Richard Gere, Will Smith, Michael Douglas, Sting, Bryan Adams, Stevie Wonder, Oprah Winfrey and Debbie Allen, the Shiamak Davar Dance Company has made the world its stage.

The World Economic Forum (Davos), Commonwealth Games (Melbourne, 2006 & New Delhi 2010), IIFA Awards, Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA), Shiamak’s Tour of China, South Africa and Egypt and the Unforgettable Tour with the Bachchans are just a few international platforms where the Shiamak Davar Dance Company has left an indelible mark. The Company was also an integral part of Franco Dragone’s musical production INDIA directed by Brian Burke in Germany.

In India, high quality presentation of dance events, shows, films and performances are synonymous with the Shiamak Davar Dance Company. Award ceremonies including the Filmfare Awards, Stardust Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Star Parivaar Awards, CINTA, Apsara Awards and Miss India Pageant have had power packed performances by the Company teaming up with the biggest Bollywood stars. Dance productions like Yes!, One, I Believe, Zangoora- the Gypsy Prince at the Kingdom of Dreams, Gurgaon, and more recently Selcouth demonstrate the versatility of the dance company.

The Shiamak Davar Junior Dance Company

Training talent at an early age, Shiamak’s Junior Dance Company consists of young dance enthusiasts between the age of 7 to 14 who display their dance-ability, discipline and professionalism at major events. Performing at national and international platforms, the JDC is the only professionally trained group for children that learn and perform a variety of dance styles and create magic on stage, keeping the zest and energy of their age intact.

Selcouth

Rare and unusual, the body is an intricate work of the supreme power. In every human being lies an odd undertone, a marvelous spark that sets you apart for the ordinary. It is only when you accept the oddities within you will you discover who you truly are. The Shiamak Davar Dance Company brings life to a vision of things that we don’t see, places we fear to visit and situations that awaken us to the truth, all through contemporary dance movement in true Shiamak Style.

Metaal

Shiamak Davar’s latest contemporary show, Metaal, is a display of Shiamak Style choreography blending indo contemporary and modern movement with ballet technique Students from his One Year Dance Certification Program (OYP) showcase their technique, training and dance ability in a show that pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance. Bringing various elements of ‘Metal’ alive on stage through metallic colors and imagery, Shiamak extends the meaning of the word to ‘Main-Taal’ (Hindi) which means ‘I am Rhythm’

I Believe

Accompanied by the Shiamak Davar Dance Company, Junior Dance Company and Shiamak’s Victory Arts Foundation (VICTORY), Shiamak Davar takes on the role of singer, performer and choreographer with this production. I Believe ran to packed shows at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA in 2007 and 2008.

I BELIEVE

From Broadway Jazz, Jazz, Indo Jazz, Rock’n’Roll, Salsa, Hip Hop, Bollywood and Shiamak Style (contemporary), Shiamak has been entertaining audiences over the last thirty years with his productions. From Impact 1990, Shiamak introduced to the country shows with international standards. His next two productions, Yes! The Spirit of Triumph (2000) and One (2003) ran to packed houses. I Believe- A Shiamak Davar Spectacular (Mumbai, November 2007 & April 2008) which he directed, designed, choreographed and performed, has been compared to some of the Broadway’s best. Shiamak has choreographed the biggest Bollywood musical Zangoora – The Gypsy Prince at the Kingdom of Dreams, Gurgaon (2010 to present) that has completed over 1300 shows and is still running. Presenting his new body of work involving contemporary and modern movement, Shiamak’s latest production Selcouth has completed 18 houseful shows in Mumbai.

The famous Hindu mythological epic, The Ramayana, is brought alive on stage through contemporary dance movement in a dance musical format.

Stars of Bollywood

Lights, camera, action! Stars of Bollywood is a tribute to the legends of Indian Cinema, stalwarts who have shaped Bollywood as we see it today.

A Shiamak Davar Production, the show is a celebration of Bollywood music and dance. Performed by The SHIAMAK Dance Team, the show has played to packed houses in Toronto, Vancouver, Melbourne and Sydney.

Through dance, Shiamak has bridged cultures globally with shows, events and performances. Shiamak is the official choreographer and entertainment designer for the IIFA Awards and has taken Bollywood dancing to multiple locations around the world since 2002.
